Doha, December 15 (QNA) – HE Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the State of Qatar Lothar Freischlader congratulated the leadership, government, and people of Qatar on the occasion of the National Day, noting that this occasion is an opportunity for the people of Qatar to feel proud of their rich history and values, their vibrant culture, in addition to their outstanding achievements.

In his remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA), HE the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany said that the National Day is an opportunity for citizens and residents to express their love for the State of Qatar, and celebrate the achievements of the founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani.

His Excellency praised the State of Qatars achievements at various levels, especially the economic level, as it has become a prominent global player.

He added that Qatar has advanced to become one of the largest exporters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the world, and among the highest countries in the world in terms of per capita income, and this is a great achievement. He added that Qatar is open to new technologies and innovations in all sectors, which is in line with Germanys experience and efforts.

He pointed out that Germany is a partner of the State of Qatar and a contributor to development efforts in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, citing the partnership with the German company ThyssenKrupp, which is currently building the world’s largest blue ammonia facility in Qatar as part of Qatar’s sustainability strategy. He indicated that this is just one example of many, as German companies have contributed to many infrastructure projects in the country.

HE the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany also noted Qatar’s achievements in the field of sports, and its distinguished hosting of various major sporting events such as the FIFA World Cup in 2022.

Relatedly, HE the Ambassador praised Qatar’s efforts in mediation and conflict resolution, stressing its vital role in promoting peace and stability regionally and globally. He said that Qatar, with its tireless efforts and open communication channels, has emerged as a very valuable mediator in resolving crises.

He added that Qatar, Germany, and many other countries still have a vision for a more united and peaceful world, whether in Ukraine, Sudan, Gaza, Lebanon, or other parts of the world, stressing the importance of working together to achieve this vision.

He also emphasized that Germany is always ready for further engagement and interaction with Qatar as a partner in facing the many challenges on the international scene. He said that Germany will remain a major humanitarian donor around the world, and also works tirelessly through its diplomatic channels and behind the scenes to help reach agreements to stop wars and conflicts around the world.

HE the German Ambassador described the Qatari-German relations as strong, flexible and trustworthy, noting that there is a determination to develop these relations further. He added that this description embodies the relationship between the two countries that has continued for more than five decades, and the friendship that has culminated in an intensive exchange of visits in recent years at the highest level.

In this context, he referred to the visit of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to Berlin in October 2024, as well as His Highness’s visit to Berlin in October 2023, and also the visit of HE President of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Doha in November 2023.

HE Ambassador Lothar Freischlader said that this reflects the strength of the fruitful and trust-based relationship between the two countries, not to mention the strong economic ties, but of course, there is always room for more, so the two countries are constantly working to further strengthen their relations.

He voiced Germany’s aspiration to expand and deepen areas of partnership with vital entities and institutions in Qatar, such as institutions and entities concerned with the environment and climate, whether governmental entities, economic institutions or research communities to enhance dialogue and cooperation related to climate issues.

His Excellency also stressed Germany’s keenness to enhance cooperation and partnership with the State of Qatar in the field of trade and investment. He said that trade relations are already strong and flexible. For example, around 120 German companies operate in Qatar, and Qatar has huge investments in Germany, but they believe that there is great potential for further growth.

Concluding his remarks to QNA, HE the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany stressed the importance of deepening cooperation between the two countries in the fields of culture, higher education, and science and research. He noted that several memoranda of understanding were signed last year with the Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation (QRDI) Council, Web Summit, and others. He pointed out that Qatar and Germany are currently discussing the government grants program, and are planning to establish cooperation in the field of museums. (QNA)
